Fence posts – a choice which is a little wider than you might have thought

Sunset Beach

Now that you are gripped by the title of this piece, we can look at your options when it comes to deciding on what type of fence post to use in your garden. So, five weeks away from Christmas, put down that Summer Holiday brochure and read on…

For many, the only choice they ever consider is concrete. This has obvious advantages in terms of it’s longevity and strength but it can be considered harsh looking in the setting of a domestic garden. Alternatives are therefore often requested by our customers and their main choice is then to look at timber. This material is less expensive than concrete and easier to install. It also has a ‘softer’ look and fits the setting of a well cared for garden better than concrete ever could. The drawbacks, though, are obvious – rot and infestation, of course. A cheap timber post might last less than 10 years before failing but there are alternative choices which can be made by paying that little bit extra and ensuring the timber is tanalised and treated. Some suppliers can offer guarantees of up to 15 or even 25 years against their timber posts succumbing to the ravages of our weather. These are well worth consideration.

A post made from steel might sound ridiculous in a pretty garden but we can supply and fit such posts – these are available in a variety of colours to suit your taste. Again, being galvanised and powder coated, these will last a very long time and are also guaranteed by the manufacturer for up to 25 years.

So, whether you want to consider fence posts made from concrete, timber or steel the range of choice is wider than you probably thought. All you need to do is contact us and we shall be happy to show you samples of what is available. You can go back to your Holiday brochures now…
