Is your fencing child-friendly?

Child Safety Garden Fence

Seeing the world through a child’s eyes can be rewarding and surprisingly insightful. We tend to become complacent to the wonders of the world and forget about how the world can seem to a child. But ensuring that we look at our garden through a child’s eyes can be imperative. Even if you don’t have your own children, you might have friends or family with children and there is nothing better than knowing that your garden is safe and contained so that you put the kids outside to run around, while you stay inside, drink tea and eat the nice biscuits…

The problem comes that as adults we understand about things like boundaries, so it doesn’t matter if there is a gap in the fence, or the wall has crumbled at the end of the garden. We don’t regard holes as invitations for adventures, or a leaning fence panel as a makeshift slide, but children do. So, a garden that may contain a handful of respectful adults, might have no chance of containing a bunch of curious children.

The other side to this scenario, is that if you securely fence your garden, it will prevent other people’s children from getting in. So, those rowdy neighbours next door, well, a good fence will stop them and their children. And the boundary the separates your garden from the wasteland, that fencing will keep people out as well. We can’t help you with the footballs being kicked over your fence!

So, take a look at your fencing. Is it doing its job? Is it showing a clearly defined boundary between properties? Is it keeping children in or out (depending on your preference!)? Is it functional as well as attractive? Is it safe? If you answered “no” to any of these questions, we can help you.

If you are considering replacing or upgrading the fencing in your garden, talk to us. We can advise you on what will work well for your space and how to improve what you currently have.
